2ndhometogrow - your Tagesmutter in Zürich City

At 2ndhometogrow, children’s needs are at the heart of everything we do. Our loving, flexible daycare in Zurich supports each child’s individual development within a bilingual environment.

What is a "Tagesmutter"

A Tagesmutter  (would be translated as "day-mom") provides childcare in a small, family-like setting — usually in her own home. Often, these are mothers who care for their own children while lovingly welcoming a few additional children into their daily life. Their personal parenting experience forms the heart of their work, creating a calm, intimate and secure environment where children feel truly at home.

In the city of Zurich, childminders are officially registered and supervised. They are visited and reviewed once a year by the local childcare authority to ensure safety, quality standards, and appropriate care conditions.

For many families, this model offers something very special:
A gentle rhythm, close relationships, and far less stress than large daycare centers. Especially for babies and toddlers, long and highly structured days can feel overwhelming. Early wake-ups, busy commutes, and full-group settings are often simply too much for very young children.

A childminder setting allows for slower mornings, individualized attention, and care that follows the child’s natural pace.

About 2nd.home.to.grow

2nd.home.to.grow was founded by Me,     Sabine Stefani,  a 35 year old Mom of two lovely kids.

My path to becoming a Tagesmutter is both professional and deeply personal.

I am a fully qualified early childhood educator (trained in Germany, 2008–2013) and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Pedagogy (2020–2022). Over the years, I have worked in diverse educational settings, including the German School Shanghai and most recently at the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich (PUK) from September 2022 until February 2026. My professional background allows me to combine pedagogical expertise with emotional warmth and structured guidance.

At the same time, I am a mother of two — my daughter was born in June 2023 and my son in August 2025. Becoming a mother reshaped my perspective profoundly.

I realized that returning to a demanding role as a social pedagogue — waking two small children at 6 a.m. to rush them to daycare before starting a full workday — did not feel aligned anymore. Financially, it often barely balances out. Emotionally, the daily stress can be overwhelming for babies and toddlers. They need presence, calm transitions, and secure attachment more than tightly scheduled routines.

Creating this space at home was my heartfelt answer.

Here, children experience a second home — a place to grow slowly, safely, and joyfully. A space where professional knowledge meets lived motherhood. A place where every child is seen, respected, and supported in their individual development.

Welcome to a true 2nd.home.togrow.
